Zachary Bouzan-Kaloustian is a budding professional photographer based in Cambridge, MA. He began his photography nearly 10 years ago in his home state of Maine while taking a graphics art class in high school. During that class he shot with B&W film doing all of his own developing and printing. He took the fundamental knowledge that he learned from the class and progressed into the digital age when his father bouht him a Sony Mavica MVC CD1000. This 2.1 Megapixel beast wrote directly to CD-R and taught Zach the lessons of carefully composing a shot and patience to wait for it to write to the CD. Mainly Zach used this camera to shoot sporting events and his photos appeared in his high school year book.
During his first two years of college, academics and athletics got in the way of a lot of productive photographic ventures, so it wasn’t really until the summer after his sophomore year, which was spent working in NYC, did photography resurface as an important part of Zach’s life. Zach used photography as a way to express himself and venture throughout the city. At this point in time he was using a borrowed, completely manual Nikon FE film camera with a 1.8 50mm lens. He was primarily using color film as a way to practice for his upcoming study abroad experience in Florence, Italy. After nearly three months in NYC Zach headed off for Italy with his Nikon and upgraded digital (Kodak EasyShare DX6490) literally in hand.
Italy proved to be exactly the experience that Zach needed. During his orientation in Lido Di Camaiore he ventured around the Italian coastal towns of Cinque Terre and in and around Tuscany to such destinations as Pisa and La Grotta del Vento, all the while with a camera attached to his right hand and eye.
After 3 glorious weeks in Lido Zach and the rest of his study abroad crew moved to their final destination: Florence. This small city and light course load (compared with Babson) enabled Zach to turn his entire focus to photography….
More to come, Zach is too busy shooting and editing to get to finish this story right now… In the meantime, if you’re interested in contacting Zach, email him: ZacharyBK@gmail.com
