Istanbul Bound
My friend Ece has spent the past 4 years in Boston going to school at Babson, and sadly it’s her time to return to her home of Istanbul, Turkey. Fortunately we had a chance to get together before she left to take some shots. We were able to take advantage of a variety of spots and landmarks in and around Harvard Square and MIT. We especially had fun at the Stata Center at MIT.
I love the first black and white of Ece on the steps, actually the first 3 in this series are gorgeous. Great job Zach!

Life-paths may not perpetually converge…though influence and inspiration, especially friendship, can last lifetimes.
A naturally beautiful subject, captured with great skill…I see you are using your environments to your advantage, also in simplifying the different fields of the image, both of which allow the expression and personality of your friend to stand out…below are some of the images I like and why…though all are very interesting.
1 - Very blissful. Also, the emerald green bordered with the filter is quite ethereal; her dress looks like silk against the grass, and you have captured the highlights and shadows of the fabric, like drapery. Also the black of the dress and black of the vignette balance the image well.
2 - Awesome black & white. The daylight from outside the subway and sense of perspective from the railings and stairs draw the eyes upward through the image. Stability is lent to the image from the darkness of the lower stairwell in the bottom half of the photo.
3 - Very whimsical, I like it. In terms of street photography this is really interesting, as if she is laughing out an idea or abstract thought and it is evincing itself in the graffiti. Very visually advantageous to have parallel lines of yellow color in the bow of her dress, the “to buses, to trains”, and the line on the ground.
9 - Awesome mirror effect! I like how the reflection divides the image in half, as well as the warm and inviting metallic/skintones/tan colors, especially the bronze and copper. Which is interesting that you’ve captured such a spectrum of color with architecture - structures sometimes seen as alien and rigid. The angle of the wall is also very visually interesting, almost surreal because your friend’s stance/posture is more or less straight.
For other feedback, I think some of the others (8, 10) have some general opportunities in simplifying the range of color, or perhaps the range/placement of lighting (4, 10, 12 and 13). But those are just opinions…ideas to keep the ‘general viewer’ from being less visually distracted…overall, great fashion/street photography…keep it up, would love to see more!
